High Frequency Words: Review ALL Words*
* We have finished introducing all of the first grade high frequency words. Please continue to review ALL words each week. Students will be tested on these words at the end of 4th quarter and scores will be reported on the 4th quarter report card.

- Making connections across folktales that are read aloud.
- Inferring the lessons in the story.
- Noticing and understand the characteristics of folktales.
- Inferring characters' intentions, feelings, and motivations using the text and pictures.
- Predicting what will happen in the story and explaining why.
- Using information in the story to predict what characters will do next
- Recognizing characters and important details about them.
- Talking about what happens to characters in the story.
- Referring to key information and details to support ideas about the story.
- Expressing opinions about the story and characters and support them with evidence in the book.
- Telling what happens in the story after hearing it read.
- Noticing and remembering literary language patterns that are characteristic of traditional literature, such as Once upon a time.
- Understanding that this story is fiction, and could not happen in real life.
- Understanding that fables are imagined because the characters are animals that act like people.
- Trying to write a word, and see if the spelling looks right.
- Using what I know about letters and sounds to spell words I don't know.
- Changing a middle sound in a word to make another word.
- Changing the first part or the last part of a word to read or write another word.
- Adding a letter to the beginning or end of a word to read or write another word.
- Writing opinion pieces that name the topic, express the opinion, provide reasons for the opinion and give a sense of closure.

- Addition timed tests (all facts within 10)
- Subtraction timed tests (all facts within 10)
- Order, compare and measure length
- Tell and write time in hours and half-hours using analog and digital clocks.
- Represent and interpret data from graphs
- Distinguish between defining attributes of shapes
- Compose two-dimensional shapes and three dimensional shapes to create a composite shape
- Partition circles into two and four equal shares
- Identifies 2 and 3 dimensional shapes and their attributes.
Reminders
- When considering how to dress your child for the day please remember that we will have outside recess on dry days when the "feels like" temperature is above 32 degrees at 1:10pm.
- Please help your child remember to charge their chromebook each night.
- Keep an extra set of clothes and an extra mask in your child's backpack in case they are needed.
